Talking about your values is one things abiding by them is another. Like any company the publish and advertise theirs. I've spoken to several who have left and have mentioned that they got a significant bump as well as things like bonuses (not offered at Westinghouse) and better health benefits.Īnother thing that one needs to consider about Westinghouse is its values. A lot of this results in top performers who were kept from bailing. Managers were given little time to choose who they cut if they even had the choice at all. However I couldn't work hard enough to get from point A to point Z because of a combination of mass layoffs leaving us teams with not enough people and frankly the organization did not apply much intelligence to who they laid off. My years at Westinghouse have been interesting mainly because I set goals and work hard and in that am able to get through the day. Thanks for a wonderful career, Westinghouse. I am now nearly destitute and have yet to find a new job. If I could go back in time 12 years, I would have chosen another company. In my time there, they laid off thousands of workers without a care in the world for their families or situations, froze all the pensions, filed for bankruptcy and have changed ownership at least four times. My advice is to steer clear of this company altogether unless you want to spend your entire career worrying about job security. If not, you may never dig yourself out of the hole you find yourself in unless you are lucky enough to find a new position under a different manager. Bottom line: If you get a good manager, you will have opportunities to advance and will probably enjoy your career there. Frankly, my manager was looking for any reason he could find to get rid of me. Worked there for 12 years and was "let go" in the middle of the pandemic ultimately because of time away from work due to network issues that were beyond my control.
